The Hollywoodbets Dolphins women’s team played a good game at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) One Day Women’s Cup on Saturday April 13. The men’s side also solidified their spot in the top four of the CSA T20 Challenge log with a dominant win over WSB Western Province on Sunday April 14.
The women’s team were in fine form as they beat the Lions by 25 runs to lift the trophy. It was a game where the Dolphins had to avoid a heavy defeat and they went on to close out the competition with a dominant win.
Opener Alexander Candler top-scored for the Dolphins with 89 off 142 balls as the Dolphins made 200 for seven from their 50 overs. The Lions were restricted to 175 all out as Jade de Figueredo and Kiara Fisher picked up 3/17 and 3/34 respectively to help their side to an important win. This win sees the Dolphins women claim their first domestic trophy.
On Sunday April 14 the men’s side were in action against Western Province and continued that winning momentum with a significant eight-wicket win at Newlands in Cape Town. The Dolphins had to be patient with the ball and only got their first wicket with Province on 45.
It was from there that the Dolphins dominated, picking up 10 wickets for the addition of just 51 runs as Prenelan Subrayen and Andile Simelane played an impressive game. The pair both took three wickets, with Subrayen finishing with 3/18 and Simelane bagging 3/12.
Jon-Jon Smuts picked up two wickets and there was a wicket each for Eathan Bosch and Daryn Dupavillon. The Western Province, Tony de Zorzi top scored with 22 off 15 balls as he was one of three players to make it into double figures.
The Dolphins needed just eleven overs to win the match with eight wickets in hand, said Bosch.
“Khaya Zondo finished as the top scorer with 35 off 23 balls while Grant Roelofsen made 21. Smuts and Marques Ackerman would finish the game off with 16 and 17 not out respectively. This win sees the Dolphins solidify their spot in the top four with just two matches left in the Dolphins campaign,” said Mr Bosch.
Their next assignment for the Dolphins is a meeting with the AET Tuskers on Friday April 19.
