Municipality hands over 203 title deeds

There were scenes of jubilation as KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Sipho Nkosi, eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda and Chairperson of the Human Settlements and Infrastructure Committee Bheki Mngwengwe handed over title deeds to 203 recipients at a ceremony in Cornubia, Ward 102 last Thursday (April 9).

The eThekwini Municipality has handed over 203 title deeds to elated residents in Cornubia, north of Durban last week.

There were cheers of jubilation from the 203 recipients who received their title deeds during a handover ceremony on Thursday April 9 in Cornubia, Ward 102.

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Sipho Nkosi, eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda, and Chairperson of the Human Settlements and Infrastructure Committee Councillor Bheki Mngwengwe, handed over the title deeds to the excited residents.

The handover forms part of the Title Deeds Tuesday campaign which has been gaining traction since it started in October last year.

During the ceremony Mr Nkosi congratulated Cornubia residents on receiving their title deeds.

“As the government of KZN, we are forging ahead with our human settlement and infrastructure services. This has been a long-awaited day by residents. You are the rightful owner of your homes and no one can take it away from you. I encourage you not to sell your houses, and rather view it as a lifelong investment,” said Mr Nkosi.

Mr Kaunda thanked Cornubia residents for their patience while waiting for their title deeds, adding that there are several housing projects under way in the city to meet the demand for housing. Now that the residents have homes, he also discouraged the title deed beneficiaries from selling their houses.

One of the beneficiaries was Thulisile Mgobozi, who could not contain her excitement.

“This gives me the surety I need that no one can take my house. Thank you to government. This is a very exciting day for me,” said Ms Mgobozi.
