The Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies were ruthless once again when they completed their fourth straight unbeaten weekend of Hollywoodbets Pro Series action. They beat the SSG Garden Route Badgers in both their Hollywoodbets Pro20 and Pro50 fixtures.
The Chatsworth Oval, south of Durban, was the venue for the two encounters and the Dolphins continued from where they had left off in the respective competitions. They had to make sure they were at their sharpest as the Badgers came out firing. Saturday’s Pro50 clash was one-sided for the Dolphins as they cruised to a six-wicket victory over the Badgers after they bowled the visitors out for just 66.
Proteas star, Ms Nonkululeko Mlaba, took 4/5 in 7.5 overs. The Dolphins other left-arm spinner, Ms Jade de Figueiredo, was also in fine form picking up 3/4 in six overs. The Dolphins left-arm spinners bagged 7/9 in just under 16 overs to put their team on the front foot.
The reply from the Dolphins were clinical with Ms Alexander Candler top scoring with 36 off 42 balls while Ms Nicole de Klerk finished unbeaten on 11, as the Dolphins went past the 67 required with six wickets in hand.
Sunday’s Pro20 clash saw the Dolphins continue in a similar vein, but this time they batted first, said Ms Mlaba.
“We amassed an impressive 143 for four in their 20 overs. The Dolphins opening stand between Candler and De Klerk was worth 120 and they lost the wicket of De Klerk for 68 in the seventeenth over of the innings.
Candler would go on to make 52 off 51 balls while Yasmeen Khan chipped in with 18 off 10 balls to take the Dolphins to that 143 run mark,” said Ms Mlaba.
The Dolphins once again managed to defeat the Badgers batters with disciplined bowling throughout. Between the spin of Ms Mlaba, Ms De Figueiredo and Ms Seshni Naidu the Dolphins conceded just 45 runs off 12 overs and picked up three wickets.
Managing the run-rate was the key and the Dolphins did this by restricting the Badgers to 89 for six in their 20 overs. This handed the Dolphins a 54 run win and kept their spotless run in both competitions going. This coming weekend the Dolphins face the Fidelity Titans at SuperSport Park in Centurion in the next round of the Hollywoodbets Pro Series.
