Gearing up for the Spar KZN Schoolgirl’s Fast 5s Netball Challenge are Marguerite Wagner (head of Netball, SchoolGirl Sport) and Nozipho Mkzhie (advertising and sponsorship manager, Spar KZN). Seven tournaments will be played around KZN in the coming months.
South Africa is getting ready for the Netball World Cup, which will be taking place in Cape Town from July 28 to August 6. As the excitement builds up to the event, Spar launched the third year of the popular Spar KZN Schoolgirls’ Fast 5s Netball Challenge on July 29.
The Spar Challenge will go to seven regions around KwaZulu-Natal, inviting teams from those areas to participate in this exciting Fast 5s format, said Nozipho Mkhize, advertising and sponsorship manager for Spar KZN.
“The worldwide netball focus is on South Africa in the lead-up to this year’s Netball World Cup. Spar Proteas national team will be pushing the limits in their exceptional performances – as the local youngsters are eager to be on the courts imitating their national netball heroes,” said Ms Mkhize.
Getting the ball rolling at the first tournament, the North Coast Regional takes place on Saturday July 29, at Hoërskool Richardsbaai. Two tournaments will take place in Women’s Month, the first being the South Coast Regional, hosted by Kingsway High School on Saturday August 12, followed by the Kokstad Regional at Kokstad College two weeks later, on Saturday August 26.
The regionals then head to Westville Girls’ High School for the Durban Central Regional on Saturday September 2. Moving north, the tournament will go to Hoërskool Pionier, where teams participate in the Northern KZN Regional on Saturday September 16.
The final two regionals take place closer to Durban, with the Midlands Regional getting under way at Voortrekker Hoërskool on Saturday October 14 and finally the Durban Coastal Regional which will be held at Danville Park Girls’ High School on Saturday October 21.
“This event is now considered a highlight on the school sports’ calendar,” said Marguerite Wagner, head of Netball, SchoolGirl Sport.
“The challenge offers the opportunity for players to have access to competitive play with their peers. It also offers the platform for the girls to be seen by coaches and selectors either on the court or via the SuperSports Schools’ livestreaming,” said Ms Wagner.
All games will be livestreamed on the SuperSport Schools’ website or mobile app.
