The Comrades Marathon is a race that Dr Nkeka Tseole, a postdoctoral fellow in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), always looks forward to.
He is gearing up for his fourth run in the iconic ultra-marathon to take place this Sunday, June 8.
With a background in multidisciplinary research and a passion for pushing human limits, Dr Tseole embodies the spirit of endurance and determination.
“My preparation for the race has been decent, but I always wish I did more. Running the Comrades Marathon has been a bucket list item for me. I wanted to test my body’s limits and see how far I can push myself," he said, adding that the race is a testament to the human body’s incredible resilience.
"You will be surprised how strong human beings are. It’s the mind that ultimately takes over when the body wants to give up."
With an unwavering commitment to finishing and improving his time, he looks forward to tackling the 89km Comrades Marathon route from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
As the runners hit the road, Dr Tseole extends his best wishes to fellow participants. “Let’s give it our all and enjoy the experience. A huge thank you to everyone who will be supporting us along the route and virtually, your energy will make a difference,” he said.
