A two-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after he was electrocuted after touching an illegal electricity connection in Hazelmere, just outside Verulam, today.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), residents alerted them to the incident and paramedics were dispatched.
The paramedics were told the boy had regained consciousness after being splashed with cold water. He sustained burns to his left index finger.
A relative told Rusa officers that the child was playing in the yard when he made contact with a poorly insulated illegal electricity connection. The cable supplies electricity to several homes in the area.
