New dad, Daryn Dupavillon who recently celebrated the arrival of his baby girl, produced a devastating four-over spell to take his career-best figures of 5/20. The Hollywoodbets Dolphins beat the Dafabet Warriors by seven wickets to book a home semi-final in the Cricket South Africa T20 Challenge on Sunday April 21.
The Dolphins went into their final two group matches with an outside chance of hosting a semi-final and their performances on Friday April 19 and Sunday April 21 have suggested they are hitting their straps at the right time.
Bowling first, the Dolphins managed to restrict the Warriors to 130/8 in their 20 overs with Dupavillon, Eathan Bosch and Prenelan Subrayen picking up wickets. Dupavillon picked up the first wicket in the third over and Mr Bosch followed that up the next over to see the Warriors 14/2 in the third over.
“The vital wicket of Warriors captain Matthew Breetzke fell next, Dupavillon had him caught by Jon-Jon Smuts for seven. The Warriors had 65 from Jordan Hermann to thank for their eventual total of 130. There were a few smaller contributions down the order, but the home side would have felt a few runs shy. The reply from the Dolphins was not as decisive as they would have liked initially,” said Subrayen.
They were restricted to 32 for two with Khaya Zondo and Grant Roelofsen dismissed for seven and 22 respectively. Marques Ackerman fell with the total on 56 in the eighth over of the chase, added Subrayen.
“It then became Smuts and Jason Smith’s job to get the Dolphins over the line and they did so emphatically. Their partnership was worth 75 in just under ten overs as the Dolphins got home with over two overs to spare. Smuts finished 43 not out, to go along with his 49 not out on Friday while Smith was 41 not out, off just 26 balls,” said Subrayen.
The Dolphins will host the second semi-final at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Thursday April 25.
