KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube commended the people of KwaZulu-Natal for turning out in large numbers to celebrate the Springboks, four-time Rugby World Cup Champions, saying the victory was an achievement which had sowed “a seed of hope for young people from all backgrounds”.
The team paraded the coveted Webb Ellis Cup Trophy in Durban on Saturday, taking a route through the streets of eThekwini, uMhlanga, KwaMashu Township, Dumisani Makhaye road, before making their final stop at Durban City Hall to cheers and applause.
“The people of KwaZulu-Natal, coming together in their diversity, showcased our unity and strength as a province and a nation. We’re grateful to everyone who lined the streets, demonstrating our collective support,” said Ms Dube-Ncube.
Thousands of spectators gathered along the parade route early on Saturday, November 4, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Springboks.
“Siyamthanda Kolisi and the team have reignited a sense of unity and motivation among our people. Their victory has not only brought home the Webb Ellis Cup but has also given South Africa a chance to start anew and refocus on our national pride and unity. Their achievements remind us that together, we are stronger and capable of achieving great things,” Ms Dube-Ncube added.
“The Springboks’ victory goes beyond an exceptional national achievement; it has sowed a seed of hope for young people from all backgrounds.”
