Two women, who were walking on the R102 near the Phoenix Highway off-ramp, bravely fought off two attackers who attempted to rob them with a knife and fake firearm on Wednesday afternoon.
Members of the public alerted police and a security company after they found the one woman lying on the side of the road bleeding.
Prem Balram from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said it was established that the two women had been walking together when they were approached by the armed men.
“Refusing to give up and hand over their valuables, the women fought off their attackers, hitting them with their hands, fists, kicking and assaulting them with their bags. During the attack, the one woman was stabbed on her arm and leg. The one suspect also dropped his replica firearm that was found at the scene. The men eventually had to flee empty-handed,” said Mr Balram.
Police are investigating a case of attempted robbery.
