Three offices at the Verulam police station were broken into and several valuable items stolen on Wednesday night.
South African Police Services spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident, saying the offices belonging to the sector managers, communications and supply chain management had been robbed.
“Our officials booking on duty on Thursday morning discovered the forced entry into the three offices. Several items, including valuable equipment and files were taken,” said Colonel Netshiunda.
Police officers from the station have sought the assistance of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) to be on the look-out for suspects.
RUSA’s spokesman Prem Balram said the Verulam police station has been plagued by a series of robberies in the past year.
In July 2023, a branded Verulam SAPS vehicle was stolen from the police station and later recovered in the Verulam CBD. The vehicle’s stereo and spare tyre had been stolen.
A week later, a hijacked Isuzu bakkie that had been recovered by RUSA officers in Mhlasini, was stolen from the Verulam SAPS yard.
