Delving into the world of mathematics has proven to be a success for Professor Sushant Ghosh who has been an honorary professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science since 2012.
He has been ranked in the top two percent of cited researchers in the world, with Stanford University, in California, having recognised Professor Ghosh for his career-long achievements. The recognition was based on a global list of scientists and assessed various factors, including citations, h-index, co-authorship adjustments, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator.
Professor Ghosh said it was through teamwork that he has achieved all the accolades he has over the years.
“This achievement would not have been possible without all my PhD scholars’ invaluable contributions and support. I believe teamwork makes the dream work,” said Professor Ghosh.
Based in New Delhi, India, Professor Ghosh is a professor at the Centre for Theoretical Physics, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. His research interests lie in addressing key issues of black hole physics with a focus on theoretical and computational aspects. In particular, he has obtained novel results with respect to their properties including shadows, lensing, and thermodynamics, said Professor of Applied Mathematics at UKZN, Kesh Govinder.
“Prof Ghosh has made fundamental contributions to our understanding of general relativity and its applications. He has also been instrumental in advancing the nature and quality of research in this area at UKZN,” said Professor Govinder.
