eThekwini firefighters battled to douse a fire inside a warehouse on Peters Road in the Springfield Park area north of Durban on Thursday.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson said rescue workers were at the scene at about 12.30pm and only managed to bring it under control a few hours later.
“Paramedics arrived on scene to find multiple workers tackling the inferno with fire hoses and hosepipes, without success” he said.
He said the Durban Fire Department arrived soon after the paramedics.
The area was covered in black billowing smoke.
With five to six fire engines and several medical personnel on standby, it took the firefighters more an hour to extinguish the fire and then they continued to douse the hot spots where smoke was still smouldering.
“Three people, employees of the business, were treated on scene by ALS Paramedics for minor injuries,” he said.
In an earlier report, Mr Jamison said one of the three injured workers was treated by paramedics for heat exhaustion.
Mr Jamieson said no major injuries were reported.
He said the cause of the fire was unknown at this stage.
