A 22-year-old college student is recovering after she fled a moving taxi to get away from the taxi conductor who was trying to raping her.
The Durban resident sustained injuries to her head, legs and back. The student and her family sought the assistance of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA )whom they informed about the incident which took place on Saturday.
According to a statement by Rusa, the student had attempted to defend herself but was overpowered and forced to the floor of the minibus that she boarded near her college.
“The driver and conductor dropped off passengers while proceeding in the direction of the Durban CBD.
“After the last passenger got off the minibus the conductor demanded that the student hand over her cell phone, cash and backpack.
“The student attempted defend herself, but the conductor overpowered her. The conductor removed her underwear and attempted to penetrate her but was unsuccessful. The female kicked a window on the sliding door and broke free before she jumped from the moving minibus. The minibus continued without stopping,” said RUSA spokesman Prem Balram.
A member of the public assisted the student and contacted SAPS. She was thereafter transported to hospital.
Rusa is appealing to the witnesses to contact the operations centre on 086 123 4333 with any information about the incident or the suspects.
