Pianist and composer Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane will perform on Sunday November 3 at The Chairman, 146 Mahatma Gandhi Road, Durban, at 4pm.
Before he heads to Switzerland, Mashiloane is set to offer exclusive prelude performances of his album, Isigqi, in Cape Town and Durban.
These events will immerse audiences in the rhythmic soul of Isigqi, giving a preview of the album before it is recorded live at the iconic Bird’s Eye in Basel, Switzerland in December.
Mashiloane, started playing music in church in his home town of Bethal, Mpumalanga. His love for music led him to study music professionally. He has a Master’s degree in jazz performance and graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).
Hi concert will explore the foundational elements of Isigqi, an album that pays tribute to the people, landscapes, and memories that have shaped Mashiloane’s identity and music.
“I see Isigqi as a tribute to the individuals and communities whose lived experiences have profoundly influenced my music. It’s not just about sound – it’s about the heart, spirit, and beat of the people,” said Mashiloane.
Audiences can expect a deep exploration of complex rhythms, melodic narratives, and Mashiloane’s emotive connection to the concept of home – an idea central to his work as both a performer and academic.
He will be accompanied by a stellar line-up of South African jazz talents including, in Durban, Riley Giandhari on Drums, Qhubekani Mthethwa on Bass, Thabo Sikhakhane on Trumpet, Leon Scharnick on Alto Saxophone, and legendary percussionist, Tlale Makhene.
