All local schools that are part of the National Schools Nutrition Programme are set to run smoothly this term as food items are expected be delivered by today, Monday July 17.
This was the reassurance provided by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube who was speaking at a media briefing last Thursday to reflect on key strategic issues in the province following the sitting of the provincial executive council.
She said the Department of Education had put in place proper systems to monitor deliveries and that all payments for April, May and June have been made to all suppliers.
This comes after the nutrition programme collapsed in April when most schools in the programme did not receive food after the first term break.
“Some payments for June were made last week and the department will continue to make payments. A positive development is that Ithala has now agreed to assist those who will need financial assistance,” the premier said.
Ms Dube-Ncube said they were still dealing with the errant service providers through their legal services and Provincial Treasury.
The aim, currently, was to see how much supplies were delivered by the service provider and how much money was due to them.
