Royal AM won the 2024 KZN Premier’s Cup when they beat Maritzburg United at the Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium in Ulundi on Sunday.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli, alongside Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Mntomuhle Khawula, SAFA President Danny Jordaan, and Inkosi Zuzifa Buthelezi, attended the closing of the tournament.
Premier Ntuli, in his address, expressed pride and gratitude for the success of the event.
He extended his thanks to all involved, including the Office of the Premier, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and the organisers.
He praised the six local soccer teams – AmaZulu FC, Lamontville Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United, Royal AM, Richards Bay FC, and Milford – for their participation and commitment to excellence.
“Your performances not only entertained fans but also inspired young boys and girls across the province to dream big and pursue their passion for football,” he said.
The 2024 Premier’s Cup marked a significant shift by being held in Ulundi, moving the tournament outside the traditional big cities. This decision allowed fans from rural areas to witness competitive football in their own communities.
“The event’s success shows the unifying power of football, as reflected in the lively atmosphere and the shared moments of joy among players, fans, and dignitaries. I can only hope for the continued growth of the Premier’s Cup, aiming to bring joy, economic benefits, and a sense of community to every corner of KwaZulu-Natal,” he said.
