A 25-year-old man was arrested in Durban after R3 million worth of counterfeit goods were found in his possession on Thursday.
The counterfeit goods found included high-end cellphones and “hundreds” of luxury clothing brand items.
Police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the bust was made when police intelligence led the team to a shop at the corner of Brickfield Road and Crescent Street.
“Upon arrival, the suspect was found selling big brand items without any documentation. Police also uncovered that the shop was just a front for the suspect’s illicit cellphone trade,” he said.
The police said all items were seized. The suspect alleged that he obtained his stock from Gauteng.
“Investigations are under way into the suspicion that the goods were illegally shipped into the country,” said Colonel Netshiunda.
The suspect is set to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 5.
