Police in KwaZulu-Natal are appealing to the public for assistance in locating Linda Hlongwa, a suspect wanted in connection with several serious criminal offences, including the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Mr Hlongwa, who is also known by the aliases Mjinja or Putin, was initially arrested on July 20, 2020, after being found in possession of a firearm and ammunition on Ukuthula Street in St Wendolins, Mariannhill. Following his arrest, he was released from custody pending ballistic results. However, Mr Hlongwa has since failed to comply with court summons to face these charges.
In addition to the firearm-related offences, Mr Hlongwa is wanted in connection with multiple extortion cases in the Mariannhill area. A warrant for his arrest was issued by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on September 9.
The police are urging anyone with information about Mr Hlongwa’s whereabouts to contact Investigating Officer Sergeant Gwala at 079 889 9733 or to anonymously report any leads through the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111.
Authorities have urged residents to come forward with any relevant information.
