Police and Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) are on the lookout for two women accused of drugging and robbing a 75-year-old man at his home on Mungal Road, Verulam.
According to RUSA’s Mr Prem Balram, the two suspects, dressed in Indian traditional attire and concealing their identities with masks, approached the man while he was outside his residence on Monday.
They reportedly initiated a conversation, mentioning his late wife by name.
“Trusting them, he invited them into his home, where they offered to prepare tea. The women took over the kitchen and brewed tea, which they shared with the victim. Shortly after drinking it, the man blacked out, regaining consciousness hours later. Upon waking, he discovered that various household items, his cellphone, cash, and clothing were missing. CCTV footage from the property captured the women leaving with two large bags. At this stage, it remains unclear if they used a vehicle for their escape,” said Mr Balram.
He urged the public to come forward with any information.
“These criminals exploited a vulnerable individual’s trust,” Mr Balram said. “We encourage anyone who recognises these suspects or has information about this incident to contact Reaction Unit South Africa at 086 1234 333.”
SAPS spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said any assistance in locating the women will be appreciated.
