Three armed men, within a spate of thirty minutes hijacked a vehicle. Then, using the same vehicle, robbed a man leaving his home of his wallet and other belongings and a security guard at a church in Phoenix on Wednesday morning.
KZN VIP Security spokesman Gareth Naidoo said they received a call for assistance after a hijacking in Rubyfern Place at about 6.30am.
Upon arrival they established from the victim that he was confronted by three armed men who had approached him on foot while he was leaving his property.
“He was removed from his vehicle by the suspects and left on the road while the suspects fired two shots in his direction. The suspects then fled in his white Toyota Corolla,” said Mr Naidoo.
He said the victim sustained graze injuries to his left hand and leg and was taken to hospital where he was treated.
The next incident, reported at about 6.40am on Allingstone Drive, was where a man was robbed of his wallet and cellphone.
“The victim said he too, was leaving his property, but was confronted by three armed men who arrived in a white Toyota Corolla. He was about to jump into his vehicle to leave home and they robbed him of his wallet and cellphone and fled in the vehicle that had no number plates,” said Naidoo.
Then at about 6.50am, the KZN VIP control room received a call from a member of the public who stated that a security guard was robbed of his firearm at the Mount Calvary Church on Whetfern road.
“The security guard said he was inspecting the property after receiving an alarm activation when he was confronted by three armed men in a white Toyota Corolla and robbed of his firearm. The suspects then fled in the vehicle and he confirmed it had no number plates,” said Naidoo.
Phoenix police are investigating three cases of armed robbery and a hijacking.
