The Sibaya Community Trust has unveiled the new Fundani Children’s Home at the Khulani Shelter, as a haven for vulnerable and orphaned children.
The handover event celebrated the completion of the R7 million project.
Vivian Reddy, founder and chairman of the Sibaya Community Trust, expressed his delight at this achievement.
“Our investment is our commitment to community upliftment, which not only brings hope but a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable of our people.”
He emphasised the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for the youth, saying that Khulani Shelter ensured that children were taken off the streets and offered safety, warmth, and comfort.
Mr Reddy also paid tribute to Prudence Mwandla, the founder of Khulani Shelter, for her unwavering dedication to creating a sanctuary for children affected by the HIV/Aids pandemic.
“We are especially heartened that this facility serves to rehabilitate our youth, equipping them with the necessary life skills to become productive members of society,” he said.
Stanton Johnson, chairperson of Khulani Shelter, expressed his gratitude to Mr Reddy for making the project a reality.
“For 15 years, we had been knocking on doors for help with no response until Vivian Reddy, a godsend, approved the project.”
eThekwini Municipality mayor, Cyril Xaba, said the handover was a significant achievement for those in need. “This act of kindness symbolises a commitment to the welfare and future of vulnerable children in our community,” said Mr Xaba.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, the private sector, and civil society in addressing the developmental challenges facing society.
Deputy Minister of Social Development, Ganief Hendricks, also expressed his gratitude to Vivian Reddy and the Trustees of the Sibaya Community Trust. “Centres such as Khulani Children’s Shelter play a significant role in our society. They provide statutory services on behalf of the Department of Social Development.”
