The opening of Mtshebheni Access Road on Wednesday, August 23, is expected to reshape Inanda’s landscape.
Chairman of the eThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development and Planning Committee, Thembo Ntuli, said the road is a key development hub within the Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu (INK) area.
“This densely populated region has been constrained by limited access routes, hampering the smooth flow of movement and essential services. Recognising the need for transformation, the municipality embarked on building an improved access road,” said Mr Ntuli.
He said the R9 million road project is part of the municipality’s commitment to nurturing an environment conducive to both business expansion and the community’s well-being.
He said investment would stimulate economic activities in the node, foster a conducive business environment, and attract investors. The project promises to reshape the urban landscape and enhance accessibility for the community.
“This project also aligns with the City’s broader objective of invigorating economic activities within the Mtshebheni Node and fostering an environment that nurtures existing and emerging businesses along the Curnick Ndlovu Highway. We are proactively contributing to the community’s prosperity by establishing access roads to attract investors and developers,” he added.
A 100m mural curated by the municipality in collaboration with local artists was also unveiled.
It features political stalwarts like Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi and others who shaped the country.
Mr Ntuli said the art embodies the spirit of the community and pays tribute to local struggle heroes who left an indelible mark on Inanda.
The road development also benefited the informal trading sector with the addition of six new containers and 12 trading stalls.
