A 40-year-old single mother of two was killed in a freak accident at her house on Thursday May 2.
Prem Balram, spokesperson for Reaction Unit SA (RUSA), said the woman died when she was hit by her own vehicle while seated on a paint bucket in her neighbour’s yard in Waterloo, near Verulam.
“Reaction Officers arrived on the scene in the vicinity of Soul Liberation Church at 11:49 on Thursday and found the woman lying in a yard,” said Mr Balram.
A silver Toyota Azanza was stationary next to her body.
Mr Balram said they interviewed two brothers at the scene – one had been driving and one had been in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Paramedics from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) and KZN VIP found the woman unresponsive and she was declared deceased.
“They informed officers that they were travelling in the residential area with their vehicle loaded with tables and chairs. As they were driving in the vicinity of the house, a money pouch and a speaker began to slide off the dashboard. The 26-year-old driver reached for the bag of money that was sliding towards the left door. He lost control of the vehicle and ran over the female sitting on a paint bucket in the yard killing her instantly,” said Mr Balram.
He said the deceased was a single mother of two children, who were at school at the time of the accident.
“She previously resided in Hluhluwe in Northern Kwazulu Natal before relocating to Waterloo. They are withholding further details,” said Mr Balram.
