A man sitting in his parked vehicle was shot and killed on Thursday evening in Emona, near Phoenix.
Shocked residents who heard rapid gun fire contacted the police and Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at about 6.30pm.
RUSA’s spokesman Prem Balram said the callers were unable to confirm the exact location of the shooting and reaction officers were dispatched.
“The officers patrolled the vast area until they found a bullet-riddled VW Golf. The driver’s lifeless body was slumped in the seat and he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds,” said Mr Balram.
He said information was vague at the moment but they had managed to establish that the man had been parked on the side of the road and waiting for his friend when the incident happened.
Mr Balram said several high calibre rifle cartridges were discovered at the scene.
Police are investigating a case of murder and the motive for the shooting is unknown at this state.
