A man was bludgeoned to death with a discarded television in Hazelmere. The man, believed to be in his thirties, was discovered by a passer-by who noticed a dead body lying on a footpath and contacted private security company, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), on Sunday morning, June 2.
Spokesperson for RUSA, Prem Balram said residents contacted their operations centre on Sunday at 7.14am after they discovered the victim’s lifeless body on an unpaved footpath.
“Reaction officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival were directed to the scene where the man was located lying in a prone position. He sustained blunt force trauma to his head and multiple lacerations to his face. He was bludgeoned to death with a television,” said Mr Balram.
Broken blood-stained glass from the discarded television was discovered on the man’s face and around his body.
According to residents, the television had been lying along the footpath for several months. The deceased was identified as a resident of Hazelmere. Some residents had told RUSA officers that the man was last seen on Saturday night, June 1, at a local tavern, Mr Balram said. The motive for the murder has not been established, he added.
