An operation conducted by the Metro Police Central Region members and the Durban Central Field Unit resulted in the arrest of a man for being in the possession of Cleansing and Solid Waste municipal refuse bags.
The man was attempting to sell the refuse bags at the Greyville flea market
The arrest was a result of the Metro Police acting on a tip-off they received.
They found the suspect with 60 clear packets, each contained 100 Cleansing and Solid Waste refuse bags worth R6 000.
He was also in the possession of three sealed bags, each containing 26 Cleansing and Solid Waste refuse bags, said Metro Police spokesman Colonel Boysie Zungu.
“It is illegal to sell municipal refuse bags and residents are urged to report the crime. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon,” Colonel Zungu said.
The municipality reminds residents that Cleansing and Solid Waste black refuse bags are not for sale and are delivered to residential properties every three months.
Residents are encouraged to notify the City in the event of anyone selling Cleansing and Solid Waste refuse bags by calling 031 311 8804.
