Police apprehended a 29-year-old man last Wednesday morning, November 13, for allegedly selling dagga to high school pupils in Lamontville.
The arrest followed an operation led by the Social Crime Prevention unit, acting on a tip-off about a man reportedly dealing drugs to pupils outside a local high school.
Police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the operation culminated in officers discovering the suspect in a room adjacent to the school.
“The man was found in the presence of 10 pupils, including eight girls, in that room. Officers also seized a quantity of dagga that the man was allegedly attempting to sell to the young pupils,” said Colonel Netshiunda.
He said the pupils were all given a warning in their parent’s presence before being released.
“In an effort to protect the futures of the pupils, especially during this crucial period of final examinations, police issued a stern warning to them, with their parents present, before releasing them. Authorities have outlined the importance of safeguarding children from criminal influences and prioritising their education and safety,” said Colonel Netshiunda.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of dealing in dagga.
