There’s plenty on offer this weekend in Durban from the KZN Philharmonic orchestra’s fourth concert, to St Patrick’s Day events, outdoor runs and trail and comedy shows.
KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Concert 4
The line-up of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Concert 4, includes international and local talent, with the concert promising to be a mesmerising evening of classical music. It will be staged at The Playhouse Opera on Thursday March 21, at 7pm and tickets can be purchased at the venue.
Live jazz, blues and swing
International saxophonist Andrew Young will perform with Durban pianist Graham Hudson at Durban North Rhumbelow on Saturday March 23, at 7.30pm. Featuring jazz, blues, and swing classics, this concert guarantees a night of toe-tapping rhythms and unforgettable tunes. Tickets priced at R200 each are available at Computicket, with discounts for Northlands Bowling Club members.
High School Musical On Stage
Reddam House Umhlanga’s annual production of High School Musical On Stage will be performed from Sunday March 17 to Tuesday March 19. College students will be backed by a live band. Tickets are available via email at [email protected].
Kuhle Kwethu Heritage and Arts Festival.
Celebrate South Africa’s democracy and legendary figures at the Kuhle Kwethu Heritage and Arts Festival which includes performances by competing choirs from across the country at the Durban ICC, Hall 1, on Saturday March 23, from 9.30am.
Outdoors
You can join a beginner’s hike at Virginia Bush Nature Reserve on Saturday March 16, from 7am. Located in Durban North, this coastal reserve offers a scenic trek. The hike is suitable for all skill levels and well-behaved dogs are welcome to join.

Time of the Writer Festival
The 27th Time of the Writer Festival, hosted by the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal kicked off on Thursday March 14 and runs until Human Rights Day, Thursday March 21. This year’s festival theme, “Reflections, Resonance and Revival”, honours South Africa’s 30th anniversary as a constitutional democracy, spotlighting the critical role of writers and literature in reinforcing the nation’s democratic values and global stature. The festival takes place at Alliance Française, Morningside, and online.
