KwaZulu-Natal police scored a major victory in the fight against drug trafficking, when they intercepted pure cocaine valued at over R80 million hidden in a shipping container at the Durban Harbour.
The drugs, concealed in a shipment of kidney beans from Brazil, were discovered following meticulous tracking efforts by law enforcement. Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said the vessel carrying the illicit cargo had been flagged after making a stopover in another country en route to South Africa.
“The container was carefully monitored and taken to a warehouse in the Bluff area on South Coast Road for detailed inspection. Last Saturday, officers uncovered eight bags containing crushed pure cocaine during the operation. The shipment’s final destination was traced to Johannesburg, where authorities believe it was intended to be distributed,” said Colonel Netshiunda.
Police have launched an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend those behind the sophisticated smuggling operation. Colonel Netshiunda emphasised that this seizure underscored the commitment of law enforcement to dismantling drug networks in South Africa.
“The investigation is on-going, and we will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice,” he said.
