A bakkie was swiftly recovered in Cottonlands on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after it had been hijacked at a business park near the airport.
The two men who were in the bakkie when it was hijacked, managed to escape and alerted members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).
“We were in the bakkie at a robot when we were confronted by the two suspects. One had a firearm and the other had a panga. They forced us out of the bakkie, made us give them our valuables and then sped off with the bakkie. We are just thankful that we were not harmed,” said one of the victims.
RUSA’s Prem Balram said an officer on patrol in the area was flagged down by the two victims.
“We immediately contacted the tracking company and they activated the vehicle’s tracking unit that was emitting signals in Cottonlands. Our officers converged in the area and started searching through the sugar cane plantations. An hour later, we found the bakkie abandoned in the plantations,” said Mr Balram.
