Kiya Singh, a Grade 11 pupil at Star College Durban, did her school proud when she brought home a bronze medal after taking part in the third round of the Computer Applications Olympiad (CAT) in Pretoria.
The Olympiad, organised by the Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA), aims to promote IT in South Africa.
Kiya attended the three-day event along with several other pupils from different parts of the country. She said it was a memorable experience that brought together students from diverse communities.
“The first day was filled with excitement, I met fellow competitors and the energy was electric. The students were eager to showcase their skills and knowledge in computer applications,” said Kiya.
“The second day was the final round of the competition, it was challenging and exhilarating at the same time. It pushed me to expand my knowledge and test my skills. The competition was fierce, but I was driven by my determination and the hard work paid off. I brought home a bronze medal.”
She said pupils looked forward to the final day of the event, which was a fun-filled day of bonding and making new friends.
Kiya expressed her gratitude to her school and parents for their support throughout her journey.
“I would like to encourage all students who have a passion for IT or computers to enter the CAT Olympiad. It not only helped me expand my knowledge but taught me invaluable lessons which I will treasure for life,” Kiya said.
