A four-year-old girl was killed after she made contact with an illegal electricity connection in Canelands, near Phoenix on Monday July 17.
Fazira Aina, is alleged to have been electrocuted when she held onto an illegal electricity connection running along the fence at her uncle’s home.
“It is alleged that Fazira had lunch at her uncle’s home. After lunch, the uncle was locking his house to take her back to her home, when she was electrocuted after she allegedly held onto an illegal electricity connection running along the fence. Her uncle managed to break the connection and transported the baby to hospital with assistance from his employer,” said Reaction Unit South Africa’s (RUSA) Prem Balram.
He said his officers were dispatched and upon arrival found that the child had already been taken to the Osindisweni Government hospital.
“Our officers then made contact with her family at the hospital who advised she had already sadly passed on,” said Mr Balram.
