Despite facing considerable physical, emotional, and mental strain, the Gift of the Givers team in Palestine has remained steadfast in its commitment to help the people of Gaza.
Gift of the Giver’s founder Dr Imtiaz Sooliman said the organisation had been actively procuring essential medical supplies, medicines, and wheelchairs for multiple hospitals since the start of their mission.
“Given the harsh conditions resulting from relentless bombings, patients arriving at hospitals without any belongings are provided with new clothing and hygiene items. Additionally, Gift of the Givers is funding fuel purchases for ambulances, as a disheartening 15 hospitals and 23 ambulances have been intentionally targeted.
“We are providing water to thousands of residents only possible through the operation of three desalination plants. In the wake of electricity cuts imposed by Israel, the organisation has resorted to generators, using whatever fuel is available to ensure access to clean water. Moreover, thousands of individuals have received hot meals, while communities have received food parcels. Families are also provided with vouchers to purchase necessary items from local businesses. A longstanding presence of 14 years in the region has cultivated trust, leading businesses to release items before receiving payment,” said Dr Sooliman.
He said in anticipation of the potential passage of goods through the Rafah border, Gift of the Givers was gearing up for a larger-scale humanitarian intervention with a wide range of supplies.
“We are also considering a special aid flight to further aid the people of Gaza. In recognition of the dangers their team faces, including the distinct possibility of harm, they are actively expanding their personnel and networks to ensure the continuity of their distribution efforts,” said Dr Sooliman.
