Twenty-four hours after Munira Mohideen, 66, was brutally stabbed at her apartment in Essenwood Road, Musgrave on Monday – four people were arrested in connection with her murder.
Around 7am on Monday, Ms Mohideen, a former teacher, had been stabbed several times in her chest at her high security upmarket apartments in the quiet suburb.
South African Police Service (SAPS) KwaZulu-Natal spokesman, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said Ms Mohideen had allegedly been accosted by a group of men at the entrance of her apartment. She was stabbed several times and stumbled back into her apartment, where she collapsed and died, he said.
“Mohideen was accosted by the suspects who stabbed and robbed her of her bag. The unknown suspects then drove away in a vehicle,” said Colonel Netshiunda.
It is believed that Ms Mohideen had let her helper into the complex that morning. It was only when she opened her front door and stepped into the passageway that she saw the four men, who attacked and robbed her.
Magma Security and Investigations and SAPS Berea, SAPS eThekwini District Trio Tracking Team and SAPS Durban Crime Intelligence worked around the clock following up leads which helped to identify the suspect’s vehicle.
Shaheen Suleiman, of Magma Security and Investigations, said further investigations led to the subsequent arrest of the driver and three other suspects within 24 hours of the crime having taken place.
Colonel Netshiunda added that the vehicle was seized, and police found blood-stained clothing in the suspects’ possession.
“The suspects, aged between 21 and 36 years old, appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (October 5) and were remanded in custody. They will be in the dock again on Thrsday October 12 in the Durban High Court where they are expected to submit a formal bid for bail,” Colonel Netshiunda said.
