Five men were found shot dead at a home in Amaoti, near Inanda.
On Wednesday night, Inanda police responded to reports of a shooting incident in the Tambo Plaza area of Amaoti.
“Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered the lifeless bodies of five young men inside a Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) house. Tragically, the victims had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Preliminary investigations suggest that all five of the deceased individuals, who were in their twenties, were inside the RDP house at the time of the attack.
“The assailants, who arrived in an unidentified getaway vehicle, opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene. Additionally, a sixth individual sustained a gunshot wound to the hand and has been hospitalised for medical treatment,” said SAPS spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker.
He said while this is still a developing case, initial observations at the scene have not ruled out the possibility of the motive being drug-related.
“Detectives from the Provincial Task Team, specializing in probing multiple homicides, were dispatched to process the crime scene. The investigation is on-going, with law enforcement agencies committed to unravelling the circumstances surrounding this incident,” said Brigadier Naicker.
