The eThekwini municipality has announced the successful completion of the Token Identifier (TID) rollover for all active prepaid electricity meters.
The nationwide deadline was Sunday November 24.
While the Municipality had assured residents of timely completion, the final touches to this critical initiative were completed on Sunday, marking the conclusion of a countrywide effort to update prepaid electricity meters.
The process was not without its challenges, as some customers expressed concerns as the deadline neared.
However, the City’s team worked diligently to provide extensive support, ensuring a seamless transition for users.
This initiative also uncovered a significant number of inactive prepaid electricity meters, which the Municipality plans to address through a comprehensive investigation and reconnection strategy.
Launched in August 2023, the TID rollover campaign required a coordinated effort across departments and stakeholders.
The Municipality has extended its gratitude to its staff and all involved in this successful rollout. A special thanks was also conveyed to eThekwini residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the process.
