Coming together to clean-up their environment, a group of young eco-friendly activists have teamed up to clean up the beachfront – and Green Buddies Environmental Club will be doing a beach clean-up at the Blue Lagoon on Saturday September 16.
Chairman of the Green Buddies Environmental Club, Ashlen Ellan said they had partnered with various organisations to celebrate International Coastal Clean Up 2023.
Included in the clean-up are KZN Beach Clean Ups, Durban Solid Waste (DSW), University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Westville Hindu Students Association, UKZN Golden Key Society, Youth 4 MPAS, S.E.A.L.S, Fridays For Future, Zero Waste Durban, Zero Waste Foundation Don’t Waste Group as well as GreenPeace Durban Local Group and the Sri Sathya Sai International Organisation.
“The organisations have come together to collaborate on International Coastal Clean Up 2023 because they share a common goal – protecting our environment,” said Mr Ellan.
“This is an important event at an environmental and community level. At Green Buddies Environmental Club, we are committed to fostering environmental awareness, sustainability, and responsible citizenship among the youth. Our programme aims to equip students and learners with the knowledge, skills, and passion needed to become environmentally conscious individuals who actively contribute to a healthier planet.”
Mr Ellan said they encouraged students and pupils to participate and do their bit for their environment.
Mr Ellan added that the clean-up on Saturday September 16, would start at 9am and would involve many schools and volunteers from various organisations.
