The highly anticipated premiere of A Wesley South African Christmas the final chapter on BET’s hit show, Wesley Christmas trilogy will showcase Durban.
This festive film not only celebrates the magic of Christmas but also highlights Durban’s stunning landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage, showing off Durban as a tourism destination, said eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba.
“The filming of this Hollywood production in Durban showcases our city’s breathtaking scenery and rich cultural tapestry. As a growing hub for film tourism, Durban offers filmmakers and visitors an unforgettable blend of spectacular backdrops, warm hospitality, and diverse heritage,” said Mr Xaba.
As the third chapter in the trilogy, A Wesley South African Christmas brings together top South African and American talent, further highlighting the strength of the cross-cultural exchange between Hollywood and the vibrant South African film industry.
“With a stellar cast that includes American stars Dorien Wilson, Judi Johnson, TC Carson, and Jasmine Guy, alongside South African A-listers NayMaps Maphalala, Dineo Langa, Jesse Suntele, Baby Cele, Bohang Moeko, and Trevor Gumbi, this film celebrates the power of storytelling to unite audiences across borders. More than 450 South Africans worked on this film, which was created by OCTET Productions,” said executive producer, Bree West.
Husband and wife team, Bree and Chuck West of Octet Productions said they created this film as a love letter to Africa, honouring the traditions and stories that connect African-American and South African cultures.
“Collaborating with South African talent has been an inspiring journey. This project is a testament to the strength of cultural exchange,” said Mr West.
The movie’s title track, an upbeat, festive Afro-Beat inspired anthem, is performed by celebrated South African artist, NayMaps, and was produced in South Africa. The song is set to light up holiday playlists worldwide, and fans can participate in the Tik Tok dance challenge that accompanies the track, adding a fun and interactive element to the movie’s global appeal.
Monde Twala, senior vice-president and general manager of Paramount Africa and Lead at BET International, said this film is a testament to South Africa’s creative prowess.
“It bridges continents and communities, spotlighting the richness of our culture on the international stage,” said Mr Twala.
The premiere of A Wesley South African Christmas will be screened on Saturday December 21, at 8pm, on BET (DStv channel 129).
Mr Xaba said this collaboration between eThekwini Municipality and BET, will not only celebrates the joy of the holiday season but also showcase Durban’s potential as a vibrant cultural epicentre.
“This film represents a significant step forward in our commitment to fostering international partnerships and promoting local talent. By integrating our unique stories into global narratives, we reinforce Durban’s position as a must-visit destination for creatives and tourists alike, ensuring that our city remains a beacon of culture, innovation, and artistic expression,” Mr Xaba said.
