An e-hailing taxi driver was shot and dumped on the side of the road in Phoenix on Wednesday afternoon, July 5.
The 36-year-old man was found on the side of Starwood Road by members of the public who then alerted a member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).
RUSA spokesman Prem Balram said his reaction team member had been flagged down by a member of the public requesting assistance for the seriously injured driver.
“The victim was found to have sustained a single gunshot wound to his abdomen. He informed us that he was an e-hailing taxi driver and had been called out to pick up a client on the corner of Rydalvale Place and Phoenix Highway. Upon arrival, he said, he was confronted by two men. One of them produced a firearm and shot at him. They then dragged him out of his vehicle and dumped him on the side of the road. The hijackers then sped off in his car,” said Mr Balram.
He said the victim as stabilised at the scene and then take to hospital by ambulance.
Phoenix police are investigating a case of hijacking and attempted murder.
