The dance extravaganza Shall We Dance will be staged at the Playhouse Opera Theatre from today, Friday September 15 to Sunday September 17.
The showcase, which aims to put the spotlight on Durban’s diverse dance scene, will include five performances and feature ballroom; Latin American; traditional and contemporary ballet; Irish; Bollywood; smooth tap, Spanish and show dancing.
The yearly spectacle celebrates its 29th year and is presented by the South African Dance Teachers’ Association.
The show is directed by dance stalwarts Caryl Cusens and Neville Letard. The guest artists are Cape Town’s Keanan McClune and Chantelle Le Roux who have a string of titles to their name, competing in ballroom, Latin and 10 Dance. Ms Le Roux and Mr McClune will be representing South Africa at the World Championships next month in Germany.
Also performing a vibrant Latin American dance will be Brian Booth and Londeka Mngadi as well as Khulu Khumalo and Sithembile Ndwalane. They will showcase a classical ballroom style of dance. The youngest edition to the performance will be, Asiphile Nzimande, 10, and Slindile Ncobela, 9, who will be dancing a couple of numbers as guest soloists.
Marion Loudon will MC the performance and also perform a song with the young dancers from Glenwood Boys’ High School and Durban Girls’ High School. They will do a line dance to Cotton Eye Joe and the cha-cha to Flowers by Miley Cyrus.
The show times and ticket prices for Shall We Dance are Friday 7pm – R120; Saturday 1pm – R180, 5pm – R180 and Sunday 11am – R120, 3pm – R180. Concessions apply.
