On Wednesday night the Ballitoville based IPSS Search and Rescue, an advanced life support emergency medical service and rescue provider, received an unusual call at around 10pm.
While they often get “strange calls”, this specific call was one of their best.
They were urgently requested to come out to the South African Police Service (SAPS) station near Mandeni after a 3.3-metre crocodile was found outside.
A team responded to the station to investigate, and found a large, adult crocodile, said Mr Dylan Meyrick from IPSS Search and Rescue.
“Being a unique situation, the decision was made to call for assistance from a local. Ashton Musgrave is experienced in safely capturing crocodiles,” said Mr Meyrick.
“The crocodile was safely captured and loaded onto the back of a waiting vehicle. The huge reptile measured in at a massive 3.3 metres. After discussions with relevant authorities, the crocodile was relocated to the Hluhluwe area.”
Mr Meyrick thanked the community and all who assisted in getting the crocodile to safety.
He added that the Tugela River was close to the station, and they suspect this is how the crocodile found its way to there.
