Build KZN Better was the theme of Africa’s Biggest Property Management Conference that took place at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban.
The two-day conference focused on the importance of creating resilient and sustainable infrastructure that aligns with the province’s development goals, said KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli.
Hundreds of property industry experts and stakeholders, including property developers, investors, government representatives and infrastructure specialists – commited to advancing KZN’s real estate sector and boosting economic growth.
The premier said the conference also aimed at tackling the issue of underutilised buildings and repurposing of these assets into vibrant spaces that will contribute to long-term urban renewal and economic growth.
“The property management sector is undergoing rapid evolution due to technological advancements, regulatory changes, and growing tenant expectations. This conference aims to address challenges and opportunities in the sector while fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders,” the Premier said
Key objectives include:
* Tackling the issue of underutilized buildings and repurposing them to drive urban renewal and economic growth.
* Optimizing property portfolios through public-private collaboration and innovative urban property management strategies.
* Developing solutions to combat hijacked buildings and advocating for legislative reforms to transform underutilized properties.
* Showcasing trends, innovations, and best practices in property management while providing educational sessions on compliance and regulatory frameworks.
The gathering was launched by the KZN Provincial Government, in partnership with the National and Provincial Departments of Public Works and Infrastructure, and the eThekwini Municipality. The conference aimed to foster collaboration, share cutting-edge insights, and explore innovative solutions in property management. Premier Ntuli said the provincial government focus is to build KZN back stronger than ever before.
“By mobilising experts and stakeholders in the property sector, we can collectively revitalise our urban and rural landscapes, stimulate investment, and generate opportunities for all,” the Premier said. “Delegates have used the conference to discuss best practices in land use, construction, and property management, while addressing challenges including climate resilience, affordable housing, and inclusive development.”
The conference was focused on coming up with actionable strategies and partnerships designed to drive long-term growth throughout KZN and beyond.
