The organising committee of the Natal Indian Congress’s 130th anniversary is inviting members of the public to join them in a candlelight vigil tonight, Wednesday September 11, in a show of support for the former Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, who was admitted to hospital last night.
The vigil will be at the 1860 Heritage Centre, 1 Derby Street in the Durban CBD, from 6pm to 6.45pm.
Gordhan family spokesman Adrian Lackay in a statement on behalf of the family, said they were requesting privacy during this difficult time.
“Mr Gordhan is receiving the best available medical care,” read the statement without elaborating further.
Earlier this year in March, Mr Gordhan announced his retirement after the May election, saying he would like to focus on his family and health.
Mr Gordhan, a trained pharmacist, is a struggle veteran whose career as a politician and activist spanned more than five decades before his retirement.
