An advocate representing the South African Revenue Services (SARS) was shot and injured shortly after arriving at an Umhlanga hotel on Thursday evening.
Coreth Naudé narrowly escaped death in what is believed to be an assassination attempt. She is recovering at a hospital.
Accodring to IOL, Ms Naudé is acting for Sars in a tax inquiry involving Royal AM football club owner, Shauwn Mkhize.
It is alleged that Naudé was arriving at her hotel parking lot in Umhlanga, near the Gateway shopping centre, when two gunmen opened fire, wounding her three times in the upper body, neck and face.
SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter, in a statement, condemned the attempted assassination of Ms Naudé.
“SARS calls on our law enforcement agencies to act with speed in pursuing and arresting those who attempted to take the life of Advocate Naudé. SARS wishes Advocate Naudé a speedy recovery and her family well. We will not be intimidated by such acts of crime and cowardice,” Mr Kieswetter said.
SAPS spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police were investigating the incident and had not ruled out an attempted assassination.
