A join operation between private security companies and police has resulted in the arrest of a suspect allegedly involved in a jewellery store heist.
On November 10, a jewellery store at the Cornubia Mall, Umhlanga, was robbed by several armed suspects, who made off with jewellery valued at approximately R 5 million.
A co-ordinated operation took place on November 21 by members of the DPCI Provincial Tracking Team, DPCI Anti-Gang Unit, Provincial SVC Tracing Team, National Intervention Unit, Provincial TRT, Mayville SAPS, Magma Security and Investigations, Fidelity Security and Hawks Protection Services.
Shaheen Suleman from Magma Security and Investigations said information was received about a suspect linked to the robbed.
“He was traced and intercepted at V section Umlazi while driving a white Hyundai Atios. Upon questioning, the suspect admitted to his involvement in the robbery. He was charged and expected to appear in court shortly,” said Mr Suleman.
He said the white Hyundai Atios, valued at R250 000 was recovered as part of the stolen items.
