Harley the cat has gone missing.
Her owner Andy Kerr was arrested for the murder of his mother, Dawn, on November 17.
Mr Kerr allegedly handed over Harley to the owner of a tuck shop in Hazelmere on the day of his arrest.
Since then, Harley has gone missing.
Several animal sanctuaries have attempted to locate the female cat since she went missing but were unsuccessful, said Prem Balram, spokesman for the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA
“Mr Kerr, 33, was arrested after he was accused of murdering his 72-year-old mother and concealing her death for several days. Her decomposing body was recovered in her son’s rented room after neighbours demanded a wellness check on the mother,” said Mr Balram.
Neighbours concerned about a pungent odour had approached the off-duty SAPS official for assistance who then contacted the Rusa operations centre and Verulam SAPS charge office.
“Rusa paramedics discovered Ms Kerr’s decomposing body, on a bed in her son’s rented communal housing room. Her son initially informed the first responders that she demised due to natural causes,” said Mr Balram.
“Other residents informed Law Enforcement Officers that the deceased was last seen on November 14. The landlord enquired about her wellbeing, but the son continuously provided reasons as to why she did not want to be disturbed.”
Mr Kerr has since appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court and has been remanded in custody at Westville Prison in Durban. He is due to make a second formal bail application soon.
