Five suspects, one of whom was being sought by police for murder, were killed in a shootout in Mariannhill today, Thursday June 15.
The gun battle took place in Abbot Francis Road after police had signalled for the suspects’ to pull over and they responded by firing shots at the officers, said police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda
He added that one of the suspects had been on the police’s wanted list in connection with a series of murders and other serious violent crimes. He was also linked to the Mariannhill scrapyards murder crime scenes where five people were shot and killed in two separate incidents in February this year.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) have been notified for further investigations.
