Tw men were convicted of murder in the Durban High Court on Wednesday for the fatal shooting of an Umlazi man in March last year.
Siyabonga Ngubane and Sthembiso Khomo murdered Manga Vusumuzi Khumalo in Umlazi, Q Section.
Mr Ngubane was also found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said prior to the incident the men conspired to kill Mr Khumalo, who had suffered a spinal injury in a previous attack and was wheelchair bound.
“To achieve this, they armed themselves, and on March 28, last year, Khomo drove Ngubane to Umlazi. Ngubane shot and killed Khumalo and then Khomo fetched him (Ngubane), and they fled the scene in a motor vehicle."
Khumalo died on the scene with the cause of death being multiple gunshot wounds to the head,” said Ms Ramkisson-Kara.
Following the incident, community members mobilised others to assist in finding the accused. The police were also alerted, and the accused were arrested shortly after, she said.
In the state’s case, Advocate Bonginkosi Mbokazi led ballistic and cellphone evidence.
South African Police Service (SAPS) officials who attended the scene also testified.
The case was postponed for arguments on sentence,” said Ms Ramkisson-Kara.
