Two people are receiving medical care after a light aircraft crashed near Virginia Airport in Durban North on Tuesday morning.
Garrith Jamieson, director of ALS Paramedics, confirmed that emergency responders were called to the scene at approximately 9.30am following reports of a plane crash near Beachwood Golf course, just before Virginia Airport.
Upon arrival, paramedics found the eThekwini Fire Department already in attendance. The aircraft had come to rest in the trees, and initial reports indicated that two occupants were on board at the time of the incident.
According to Jamieson, both individuals had already been transported to a medical facility for further treatment before ALS Paramedics arrived on the scene.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) cordoned off the area to allow the relevant authorities to conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash.
Further details on the condition of the occupants and the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
