Two men died in a structural collapse on Canehaven Drive, Canehaven, Phoenix, on Saturday. 

The incident occurred while the men were working at a construction site.

The Reaction Unit South Africa’s (RUSA) Prem Balram said they received a distress call from a member of the public, reporting that two men were trapped under debris. 

“In response, RUSA’s Reaction Officers and paramedics were quickly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, Reaction Officers discovered the bodies of both men, aged 27 and 29, who showed no signs of life. They were declared deceased at the scene,” said 

“The men, both Mozambican nationals, were employed by a construction company and were digging a trench when the retaining wall, along with sand and metal reinforcement, collapsed on them,” said Mr Balram. 

Firefighters from the eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services were also on the scene, to recover the bodies.
